A telling and difficult story beautifully realized." ………Charlotte International Film Festival "Recommended viewing" ……….Library Journal "…. Really quite gripping. I know of no work, written or filmed, that conveys better the complex and haunting inner emotions of American soldiers at the liberation of Dachau. Strong's film is a remarkable achievement. I was very impressed, especially by the variety in the interview, in the narrative thread, and in the directness of the testimony." Robert H. Abzug, Professor of History and American studies, The University of Texas at Austin "The Liberation of KZ Dachau is a fine piece of work, which treats oral history material with objectivity and sensitivity. It is good to see a Holocaust film in which visual material is used carefully and accurately. We are delighted to add this film to our collection and to recommend its use." ……..Bonnie Gurewitsch, Archivist, Museum of Jewish Heritage To view video clips go to- http://www.boston.com/globe/nation/packages/secret_his tory/index5_video.shtml Multiple copies in stock. It was hard to find a copy back then and so I'm thrilled to see that it's been released as a DVD. A variety of soldiers who were present at the liberation of the concentration camp at Dachau on April 30th 1945 are interviewed 45 years after the event. In all those years, most had remained silent about the horrible trauma that brought even the most battle-hardened soldiers to tears. It's not only a glimpse into the repressed personal torture of these WWII GI liberators, but it's a poignant reminder that what we now call Post Traumatic Stress is a serious and life-long threat to any combat veteran. The stories these men have to tell also brings into clear view the horrors of the Holocaust and it's aftermath, not only for Jews, but for the multinational inmates of Germany's first concentration camp (among others: gypsies, homosexuals and priests)

Reviews from Amazon.com
As a veteran and WWII historian I decided to purchase The Liberation of KZ Dachau after watching a preview on Youtube. It's very remarkable in its message and simplicity. GI's talking to us about their personal experiences liberating the concentration camp of Dachau at war end, April 1945.
I'm of Polish descent and I was surprised that most of the inmates at Dachau were Poles!
Part of the over 4 million non-Jews used and exterminated during the war. At Dachau exterminated by forced labor and heinous medical experimentation.
All to fuel the labor requirements of the 1000 year Third Reich.
Dachau was not only the first concentration camp built by the Nazi but served as a forced labor camp and armaments factory. The medical experimentation used on the slaves was of the most hideous nature and stretched all boundaries of human civility.
The message of this documentary is very clear to the viewer....Don't let this ever happen again.
But little known to the American people it is happening all over again not only in other parts of the world but RIGHT HERE!!! AND NOW!!!
It is been reported of late that there are well over 900 camps in this country along fully manned and waiting......only FEMA knows.
These soldiers if still alive could tell you why.
History does repeat itself.
Sincerely,
S. Butler
PS. I just realized that all the veterans I watched in this film are all gone now, just their story remains. R.I.P.
